For over 15 years, the former telephone box has been a well-known venue in the city for artistic installations and interventions. Before the ‘Kunstzelle’ must now temporarily make way for extensive refurbishment work on the building complex, the final exhibition will serve as an opportunity to explore the themes of the presence and absence of the space.
Printed as an image on fabric, the box is fragmented by the folds and is reminiscent of scaffolding coverings for building sites and protective sheeting. At the same time, the ‘Kunstzelle’ – the smallest venue within the 12,000-square-metre cultural centre – remains visible from afar as a flag and thus a symbol above the rooftops – until it returns.
